Durham Wife Arrested in Murder-for-Hire Has Bond Reduced

A Durham, NC woman arrested after trying to hire a hit man to kill her husband had her bond reduced to $200,000, The News Observer reported.
39-year-old Teressa Michelle Holman was busted last Thursday and charged with solicitation to commit murder, after she solicited a Durham County Sheriff’s detective posing as a hit man. Law enforcement officials, who were tipped off by telephone that Holman was looking to hire a hit man, said Holman met the undercover detective in the parking lot of the E. Greer Street Wal-Mart with a down payment for the murder of her husband, Rodney Holman.
Lt. Stanley Harris said the wife was arrested on the spot and transported to the county jail where she was held in lieu of a $2 million bond. One of Holman's four children, a 6-year-old, was with her when she met with the fake hit man. Harris said Holman has been married three other times and has four children, but none were fathered by the victim. All children were placed in the custody of relatives after their mother was arrested.

Soulful songstress, Teena Marie's career was on comeback after she sought treatment for an addiction to prescription pills.

Not many people know that singer Teena Marie was bitten by the acting bug long before her singing career took off. Teena Marie, nee Mary Brockert, had an acting role on The Beverly Hillbillies at the tender age of 8. She played "Beverly" the precocious, tap-dancing daughter of a pushy mother who wanted nothing more than to see her little girl on stage. Mother takes "Beverly" to Jed, and, well, scroll down to see Teena Marie in her television debut.
Even Motown took notice of Teena's acting skills when they produced "Orphanage Children." The TV pilot was a flop, but a number of songs were produced with several producers, with much of it remaining unreleased. Tunes, "Don't Turn Your Back on Me" from 1977 and "Every Little Bit Hurts" from 19778 can be found on the Motown compilation I Need Your Lovin': The Very Best of Teena Marie.
Teena's desire to sing germinated during her toddler years. One Sunday during Catholic Mass, Teena heard the priest chant "Dominus vobiscum, et cum spiritu tuo," which means, "The Lord be with You, and with thy spirit."
Baby Tee's effort to emulate the Father led her to break out in Harry Belafonte's song, "Day-O." Her mother, embarrassed beyond imagination, shuffled little Teena out of Mass underneath her coat. Who knew it was the start of brighter things to come.
Teena went on to fame and stardom having sang with a 36-piece big band before moving on to Motown and later, Epic Records. She mesmerized many producers with her efficacious vocals. It was reported that former lover and mentor, Rick James declined an offer to produce Diana Ross in order to work with Teena, whom he met after hearing her singing and playing piano at a Motown office. Teena's first hit single, "I'm Just a Sucker For Your Love" was reportedly a song for Ross.
Teena suffered a serious injury after falling during her 1988 Naked to the World concert tour that hospitalized her for six months, but did little to quell her fire. She made a sparkling recovery and released Ivory in the Fall of 1990.
Teena Marie, arguably one of Motown's most notable acts and nicknamed "The Ivory Queen of Soul," died at the age of 54 on December 26, 2010 at her California home. Teena's publicist, Jasmine Vega, who worked with Teena Marie on her last album confirmed her death.
Media reports say Teena Marie's daughter found her mother's body after she'd died in her sleep. Teena continued to wow fans with fabulous performances in 2010 from New York City to the Las Vegas Strip. The soulful songstress made a wonderful comeback after seeking treatment for an addiction to prescription pills. At press time, there was no word on what caused Teena Marie's death.

Four-time Grammy nominee, Teena Marie, has died, CNN.Com announced. The vivacious singer and one-time protégé of the late R&B/Funk singer Rick James died in her sleep and was found by her daughter, manager Mike Gardner said.
Teena Marie, born Mary Christine Brockert in Santa Monica, California, grew up in Oakwood on the west side of Los Angeles. Brockert, known for her powerful, ethnic voice, exploded onto the music scene during the late 1970s shocking music lovers when she performed her debut hit with singer Rick James on Soul Train in 1979.
For months prior to her television debut, many assumed Brockert was African-American. Her first top-ten R&B hit from the album, "I'm Just a Sucker for Your Love" reached #8 on the Black Singles Chart.
In 1980, Brockert's third LP, "Irons in The Fire", highlighted her ability to write, and produce.
Her single "I Need Your Lovin'," which reached #37 on the pop charts and #9 on the Black Singles music chart, brought Brockert her first Top 40 Hit and put her on the map.
That same year, she recorded the smash hit duet, "Fire and Desire" with James. Brockert and James performed the passionate hit single at the 2004 BET Music Awards launching the audience into a frenzy. That performance was their last as James died in August 2004.
Lady T's success continued to blossom and in 1981 she released her album, "It Must Be Magic," which featured one of her biggest hits, "Square Biz." This album scored Brockert her first Gold Record.
That hip hop flavored tune earned Brockert title of a lady pioneer within the music industry as she became one of the first and only artists of her time to rap in an R&B song. In the rapping portion of "Square Biz," Brockert paid homage to fellow artists and poet Maya Angelou for inspiring her.

A heated legal battle set the stage for Brockert's exit from Motown Records in 1982 and resulted in "The Brockert Initiative", which made it illegal for a record company to keep an artist under contract without releasing new material for that artist. The artist would then be able to sign and release with another label instead of being held back by an unsupportive one.

Lady T later told an LA Times reporter, "It wasn't something I set out to do. I just wanted to get away from Motown and have a good life. But it helped a lot of people, like Luther Vandross and the Mary Jane Girls and a lot of different artists, to be able to get out of their contracts."

Media outlets reported Brokcert's song, "Casanova Brown," to be about her real-life, one-time romance with former mentor James. It was reported that although the vocalists were no longer dating, they maintained a tempestuous friendship right up until James' untimely death.
Not one to rest on her laurels, Brockert continued to rock the music charts right up until her own death. During a September 2008 concert at BB King's New York City restaurant, Lady T astonished the crowd with a few finished tracks from her soon-to-be-released album, "Congo Square."

Stax/Concord Records released "Congo Square" on June 9, 2009, an album Brockert described as being "personal and spiritual," adding that the project was more "jazz-influenced" than much of her earlier work.
Brockert's duet with Faith Evans, widow of hip hop phenomenon, Biggie Smalls, was mysteriously leaked to the Internet in March 2009. Brokcert said after she finished recording the single, "Can't Last a Day," by herself she decided to make it a duet with Evans because the former jazz group back-up singer reminded Brockert of herself.
"It was after I had recorded the song I got the idea to put Faith on it. I’ve always loved Faith and her vocal style. She reminds me of me. Her correlation with Biggie — having a career with him and without him — reminds me of me and Rick. I feel like she’s a younger me. Of the younger ladies, she’s the one I love most.”

During a January 2010 interview with the Editor of award-winning B&S online, Lee Tyler, Brockert said of her last album: "I wanted to do songs that reflected the things that I loved when I was growing up. Every single song on the record is dedicated to someone, or some musical giant that I loved."
"Congo Square" has reached the Top 20 on Billboard's Top 200, giving Brokcert yet another Top 10 R&B chart entry. In 2010, Brockert continued to mesmerize audiences in Las Vegas as she headlined along the Las Vegas Strip.
There will never be another Teena Marie, but her musical style has inspired many artists who have sampled and sang her hits. Brockert was 54 at the time of her death and leaves daughter, Alia Rose (Rose Le Beau) to mourn her death.

Behind The Scenes: Hot 97's Christmas Concert w/Nicki Minaj
Some of you may know that Hot 97 had a Christmas concert last night featuring Fabolous, Lloyd Banks and headliner, Nicki Minaj. Well, what you will not hear is that there was major drama behind the scenes with Lloyd Banks and Fabolous. Apparently, Lloyd Banks did not want to open for Fabolous and Fabolous did not want to open for Lloyd Banks. The show was supposed to go as follows: Lloyd Banks performs 1st, Fabolous 2nd & Nicki Minaj last.
However, Lloyd Banks did not want to perform because 50 Cent was late. But here's the catch.....50 Cent was going to come with Lil Kim!!! Talk about starting some shit right?! So because there was a major hold up and some money issues with the promoter, Lloyd Banks NEVER performed last night and Fabolous refused to perform first so Nicki Minaj being the hardworker she is performed first. Here is how she came out below:

12 Things That Raise IRS Audit Red Flags
Ever wonder why some tax returns are audited by the IRS while most are ignored? Well, there's a whole host of reasons to this age-old question. The IRS audits only about 1% of all individual tax returns annually.
1. Failure to report all taxable income. The IRS receives copies of all 1099s and W-2s that you receive during a year, so make sure that you report all required income on your tax return. The IRS computers are pretty good at matching these forms received with the income shown on your return. A mismatch sends up a red flag and causes the IRS computers to spit out a bill. If you receive a 1099 for income that isn't yours or the income listed is incorrect, get the issuer to file a corrected form with the IRS.
2. Returns claiming the home-buyer credit. First-time homebuyers and longtime homeowners who claimed the homebuyer credit should be prepared for IRS scrutiny. Make sure you submit proper documentation when taking this credit. First-time homebuyers have to attach a copy of their settlement statement to the return, and longtime homeowners should also attach documents showing prior ownership of a home, including records of property tax and insurance coverage. Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Re-authorization, and Job Creation Act
By now you should have heard/read about Congress and the President signing the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Re-authorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010 (HR 4853).
Of the many provisions, for 2011, the tax paid by employees towards Social Security will be reduced from 6.2% to 4.2% -- essentially everyone receives a 2% raise in 2011!
Note that the 2% reduction only applies to employees; employers will continue to pay the 6.2% Social Security tax.
The IRS is allowing businesses to implement the reductions by January 31, 2011 because of the late passage of the law.

There Is NO Nicki Minaj Sex Tape!!!
Word on the internet curb is that Nicki Minaj has an "alleged" sex tape being auctioned to the highest bidder. According to MediaTakeOut.com, they had a private viewing of the sex tape and apparently the chick in the video resembles Nicki. Here's my thing....just because someone looks like Nicki doesn't mean it's Nicki!! The site also had a still shot from the "alleged" sex tape and I will tell you that whoever the chick is in the video, it's not Nicki. And more importantly, the chick doesn't even resemble Nicki all that much. See for yourselves below:
The only thing that resembles Nicki is the Cleopatra wig. Other than that, the chick is a little on the thick side and if you seen Nicki in person she's really a little petite chick. So what this all boils down to is, believe nothing you hear and only half of what you see! I'm through with this!

Unsigned Hype: Panama
Panama is an unsigned artist that has reached out to me, personally, to showcase his music and talent. Born in Brooklyn, raised in Panama and grew into adulthood in Baltimore, Maryland, Panama is taking the music industry by storm!
Some may have seen Panama on HBO's "The Wire" as Bubbles' oppressor. He's also been featured on MTV, Music Choice, BET, The Source, Yahoo and Pepsi Music. With all of that said, Panama now wants to display his lyrical talent on the microphone and has captured the attention of radio station, Power 105, with his new joint called "Addicted". Michael Vick: 'Having another dog might help with my rehabilitation'

Despite the public outrage and legal backlash Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, Michael Vick suffered after he was busted for dog fighting, the three-time pro bowl selectee says he should be able to show how he has redeemed himself as an animal lover/owner just as he has redeemed himself on the gridiron.
The 30-year-old Virginia native says he loves animals and believes be able to own another dog would actually help him with his rehabilitation process. I'm sure animal rights activists and animal lovers across the country would argue differently, but Vick seems sincere.
In July 2007, Vick and three other men were charged by federal authorities with felony charges of operating an unlawful interstate dog fighting venture known as "Bad Newz Kennels". Accused of being the front-man for financing the operation, directly participating in dog fights and executions, Vick pleaded guilty to "Conspiracy to Travel in Interstate Commerce in Aid of Unlawful Activities and to Sponsor a Dog in an Animal Fighting Venture," and was sentenced to 23 months at the Federal Penitentiary, Fort Leavenworth in Leavenworth, Kansas.
Vick's latest legal woes include bankruptcy proceedings after he filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in July 2008, and a shooting that occurred outside a nightclub in Virginia Beach, Virginia where Vick hosted his 30th birthday bash in June 2010. The shooting sent one man to the hospital and forced Vick's probation officer to restrict his travel. WABC Weather Anchor Arrested For False Sex Assault Police Report
An on-air meteorologist for New York's WABC-TV has been arrested, accused of falsely reporting an attempted sexual assault to police, a story she later recanted, according to the New York Police Department.
Heidi Jones, who does weather reports on the station's weekend newscasts, called police November 24 saying she had been attacked while jogging in Central Park on September 24, according to a police spokesman who would not provide a name, citing police policy.

Memphis Rapper Yo Gotti Not Guilty of Shooting

NY Police Fear Serial Killer on The Loose
BABYLON, N.Y. – A serial killer may have abandoned four bodies, each apparently dumped from a vehicle, along a desolate, wind-swept stretch of highway not far from Long Island's Jones Beach, police said Tuesday.
Police found the badly decomposed remains, feet from the roadway, near Cedar Beach as they searched for a missing prostitute last known to be headed to Fire Island, said Suffolk County Police Commissioner Richard Dormer.

Rosie Pérez - the great Boricua diva - starred in an episode of Law & Order SVU Tuesday night. Perez, born Rosa MarÃa Pérez is an actress, dancer, choreographer, director and community activist from Brooklyn (Bushwick), New York.
The Puerto Rican princess played Eva, the mother of a young boy who was being sexually abused by his own father. Perez played a high-strung, protective mother with a penchant for violence (she attacks the mother of her son's schoolmate and her husband all in one week).
She stabs her husband after he's busted in a sting operation led by SVU veteran detectives Benson and Stabler (Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni) to catch the husband and another child predator.
Pérez' performance was nothing short of spectacular, according to many fans via Twitter. Sporting a tight curly do with a not-so heavy-as-usual-Brooklyn-Boricua accent, she looked great and her acting was on par with what we've come to expect from Perez since she made her silver screen debut in 1988 in Spike Lee's "Do The Right Thing."

Pérez made her Broadway debut in Terrence McNally's "Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune," and landed her third major role in 1992 hit comedy "White Men Can't Jump" as Woody Harrelson's amante caliente, Gloria, whose burning desire to try out "magnificently" for "Jeopardy" kept her head in the books as she and "Billy" (Harrelson) ran from wanna-be mobsters.
Pérez scored an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Peter Weir's 1993 film "Fearless," and in 1997, she starred in Perdita Durango, a controversial film in which many scenes of excessive violence, sex and nudity were edited out of the version released in the United States, but remained intact in the version released throughout Latin America.
Pérez, a fiesty activist for Puerto Rican rights, documented her activism in her film "Yo Soy Boricua! Pa' Que Tú Lo Sepas!" (I'm Puerto Rican, Just So You Know!). She also starred in and directed the Spanish AIDS PSA campaign "Join the Fight" for Cable Positive and Kismet Films.
During her appearence at an AIDS event in Washington, DC, Dona Pérez had to be wheeled into the White House in a wheelchair to meet President Obama after she suffered an injury while filming the episode of Law & Order: SVU she appeared in Tuesday night.
Almost a year ago, a scene Pérez was in called for an extra to physically shake her. Immediately, Pérez says she felt a pain in her neck, but she went on to finish two more takes before she knew something was seriously wrong.
Turns out, the 46-year-old Boricua was suffering from a slipped and bulging disc. Earlier this year, she underwent a bone marrow procedure and had surgery on her neck. At the AIDS event, when Pérez explained to President Obama how she got injured performing a stunt, he joked, "Don't you know they have professionals for that?" Pérez told him she liked to perform her own stunts and Obama joked, "Obviously, you're not that good at it."
Other movies the actress has starred in include, Criminal Justice (1990), Untamed Heart (1993), It Could Happen to You (1994) and Somebody to Love (1994). Pérez is divorced from husband Seth Zvi Rosenfeld.

Sunday's premiere of “Basketball Wives” Season 2 rallied a .90 in the key P18-49 Live + SD rating – a high for the newly-developed series, and a 15 percent increase from season one, which scored 9-episode premiere average. Sunday's premiere episode logged 1.4 million total viewers (P2+).

Gov. Paterson's Longtime Aide Fired; Will Face Domestic Violence Charges

Paterson's former top aide's criminal record boasts two felony arrests for drug charges and a misdemeanor assault
Gov. Paterson's troubled aide is now his former aide, according to the New York Post.
David Johnson, who rose from Paterson's driver to being the Governor's top aide, was placed on unpaid leave Feb. 25 after reports surfaced alleging that he attacked his then-girlfriend in their Bronx apartment, then got the governor and other staff members to pressure the woman into not filing charges.
Johnson was officially removed from the state payroll roster on November 19 - coincidentally, the same day a Bronx judge gave prosecutors the OK to move forward with domestic violence charges against the 38-year-old aide.

Sherr-una Booker had been dating and living with Johnson for about four years, along with her 13-year-old son, when on Halloween night 2009, she says Johnson violently attacked her because he did not approve of the way she was dressed. Booker alleged that Johnson grabbed her by her throat yelling, "I'll f------ kill you before I let you go anywhere."
She said that Johnson, an imposing figure at 6-foot-7, lifted her body off the floor as he continued choking her, then threw her against a mirrored dresser as he ripped her costume off of her body. Booker, 37, said she tried to telephone 911 but Johnson ripped the phone from her hands.
When police arrived to the couple's apartment, the NYPD officers refused to arrest Johnson, and the head of Paterson's state police detail, Maj. Charles Day, allegedly asked Booker not to file charges.
Johnson, who was not suspended from his duties until the New York Times exposed the assault on Booker, surrendered to authorities in August 2010 and was charged with criminal mischief, harassment, assault, and menacing. He is due back in court Jan. 5. Soon after Johnson's assault was made public, Paterson announced he would not run for a full four-year term.
While the Governor's office was accused of knowing about the attack and attempting to coerce the victim into not pressing charges, Gov. Paterson was not found to have committed any wrongdoing per a 53-page report released by former Court of Appeals Chief Judge, Judith Kaye on behalf of State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo's office in July 2010.
The report read, "there is no evidence that Gov. Paterson committed witness tampering or any related offense. Because there is no evidence that the governor knew that Booker was or was about to be called as a witness in an action or proceeding on Feb. 7, or that he attempted to induce her not to appear in court or testify, or otherwise engaged in any fraud or deceit to affect her testimony, none of the elements of witness tampering or any related offense has been met."
Johnson, who was Paterson's closest aide, enjoyed a cushy position replete with a high-end salary and a designated room at the Governor's mansion for overnight stays. Reports from various media outlets detail a checkered past for the lanky aide that included two felony arrests on drug charges, including selling cocaine to an undercover cop in Harlem when he was a teenager.
A spokesman for Governor Paterson said Johnson underwent a "standard background check by the State Police in 2008, which found no criminal record."
Upon further examination of his criminal background, David Johnson was found to have had "altercations" with different women on three separate occasions, two of those incidents involved police. During the 1990s he was arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault, however there is little information available on that case.
According to a New York Times report, while Paterson was a State Senator in 2001, Johnson allegedly punched a girlfriend outside the senator’s Harlem office, but was never arrested in that case. When questioned, he denied hitting the woman, adding that the she came to the office "inappropriately" and had been asked to leave by others.
The woman, who asked to remain anonymous, told The New York Times that Johnson was violent with her during that incident, but that she did not file formal charges against him. She did say that she filed domestic violence charges against him after an earlier incident, but "declined to offer evidence of that," the article stated.
When pressed about Johnson's criminal background, Paterson made note of how long ago the former aide's drug arrests occurred.
"David Johnson has demonstrated, over the course of his adult life, that people can change their personal circumstances and achieve success when given a second chance. I will not turn my back on someone because of mistakes made as a teenager," said Paterson.
Paterson's seemingly non-chalant attitude towards his top aide's domestic troubles took many by surprise since he made domestic violence one of his signature causes when he was lieutenant governor, then signed a major expansion of New York’s domestic violence law which allowed judges to issue civil protection orders against people in dating relationships, shortly after he took office as governor in 2008.
In October 2009, two weeks before Johnson attacked Booker, Paterson gathered with Domestic Violence advocates for a lighting ceremony at the Empire State Building to raise awareness about the crime. Jessica Bassett, spokeswoman for Governor Patterson would only reply, "no comment" when asked why the governor's office took so long to give Johnson the boot.
