A Floridian biology teacher fired after posing for racy pictures has landed a new career – in pornography.
Tiffany Shepherd, 31, made headlines in April after bikini-clad pictures of her on a fishing charter got her canned from Port St. Lucie High School. She turned to doing porn, she told a Florida news outlet, after losing custody of two of her three kids to her ex-husband and sending out 2,500 resumes – some even to prisons – without landing a new teaching job.
"I'm not particularly proud of it. To be honest, I hate it," Shepherd told Page2live.com. "I'm an educated woman, but I never thought it would come to this. No one gets brought up thinking they'll be a floozy." Full Story

FELIZ CUMPLEANOS, MARTA

FELIZ CUMPLEANOS, MARTA!
When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives mean the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and tender hand. The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares. ~Henri Nouwen
Marta Wallis has become one of my dearest friends. I'm almost late - despite having her b-day programmed into my BB from months ago yikes! - but I remembered and here it goes: A huge hug and much love to a special woman with a heart bigger than.....PANAMA. :-) I hope your birthday was just as special as you are, Marta. Love you, Chula!

Check Out Omarosa's Book: 'The Bitch Switch: Knowing How to Turn It On and Off.'

For all my bookworms, please check out Omarosa of "The Apprentice" Fame book: " The Bitch Switch: Knowing How to Turn It On and Off." Phoenix Books is the publisher. You can find the book here: Omarosa's Book. It's listed as for 12.95, but Amazon.com has several sale options so click on the link to find out about them.

“What we as women have gone by in the past—the nice girl plan—is NOT working in the office, at home, or in life.! In romantic relationships, we suffer because we hand over our power for love and turn off our Bitch Switch. In our relationships with friends and family, we are taken advantage of. In the office, we have been passed over and walked on because we refuse to embrace our inner bitch. WELL, NO MORE!
…This book is your step-by-step guide for locating your inner BITCH, personalizing your switch, and knowing when to turn it on and when to turn it off. It’s not about being mean. It’s about meaning what you SAY!” ~ Excerpted from the Introduction (pages xi & xiii)

Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth made her memorable entrance into the national spotlight as the villain viewers came to either love or hate on The Apprentice during the debut season of the hit NBC-TV reality series. By the time she was fired in the boardroom by Donald Trump at the conclusion of the tenth episode, the sassy, business-savvy sister had already become enough of a cultural icon to be referred to by just her first name alone.
Whether or not she had been fairly portrayed as a demanding diva on the program, Omarosa subsequently had the sense to parlay that controversial image into appearances on over 20 other reality shows, including Celebrity Poker Showdown, Fear Factor, I Love New York and The Surreal Life, to name a few. And a testament to her enduring notoriety is the fact that she was the only former contestant invited back by Trump last year for another go-round as a contestant on The Celebrity Apprentice.

In The Bitch Switch: Knowing How to Turn It On and Off, Omarosa lays out her straightforward philosophy of life in order to help females who let themselves be treated like doormats.
Though unfortunately-titled, given the use of the B-word, this otherwise sensible tome reveals the author as an intelligent, strong and fervent feminist with plenty of practical advice to share with women whose self-esteem issues have been sabotaging their professional careers and preventing them from forging meaningful relationships.
For instance, not one to tolerate any double standards, Omarosa points out that a businesswoman will often be called a B-word for exhibiting the same hard-nosed leadership skills that would be praised in a man. Rather than allow herself to be manipulated by a natural desire to be liked, she instead asserts that “When men stop being assholes, I’ll stop being a bitch.”
A recurring theme emerges from an examination of Omarosa’s daily affirmations which range from “Nagging is good and shows persistence!” to “I can’t make everyone like me, but I can make them respect me!” to “Who cares what people think of me! I don’t need their trifling validation!”
An effective primer for vulnerable females on how to avoid the pitfalls of dating and of economic exploitation via an unapologetically self-preservation oriented approach to the battle-of-the-sexes.

Whitney Vs. Mariah: Divas Back in The Ring

A Commentary by MSNBC reporter Tony Sclafani

Did Houston’s potential comeback scare Carey into pushing her CD back?

Sometimes things turn out different than you expect.

A few months ago when word got out that Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey would drop high-profile CDs around the same time, it seemed easy enough to predict the fate of the often-compared big voiced, virtuoso vocalists. It looked like the ever-popular Carey would score yet another hit, while the 46-year-old Houston, who hasn’t been heard from in years, would probably struggle to find an audience again.

But that’s not what happened. When Houston put out the title track of her forthcoming album, “I Look to You” as a single, the retro piano ballad was met with such a strong response that on July 28 it was announced that the release date for her album was moved forward from Sept. 1 to Aug. 31. It was only a one-day change, but it was symbolically significant.

Fed up Fliers Ready For Rights

(CNN) -- Claustrophobia was not a condition Bill Johnson understood. That changed on August 8 when he and his new bride, while returning from their honeymoon, found themselves among the 47 airplane passengers left trapped overnight on a tarmac in Rochester, Minnesota.

{Passengers on a Continental flight operated by ExpressJet sat on the tarmac for nearly six hours on August 8}

As the hours -- going on six of them -- passed, he said the air in the ExpressJet for Continental Airlines cabin grew rank. The two babies on board cried. The toilet filled and stopped flushing. No food was served and the puddle-jumper seats made sleep, for him, impossible. All the while, the airport was visible from the plane.
"I wanted to freak out and kick the windows out," said Johnson, 35, of Minneapolis, Minnesota. "I was just trying to keep my cool."
The much-publicized story of Flight 2816, diverted to Rochester because of bad weather while en route to Minneapolis from Houston, Texas, has brought to the forefront a growing demand to institute passenger rights.
Advocacy groups are fielding calls, gathering momentum and preparing for a September 22 hearing in Washington. One organization recently bought cable television ad time hoping to reach President Obama on his vacation and earn his support, just as a bill to protect fliers from such incidents heads to the Senate floor.
Since the Rochester incident, there have been other tarmac strandings. Passengers on a Sun Country Airlines flight were trapped for about six hours on August 21 while at JFK International Airport in New York. That prompted the airline's CEO to announce last week a four-hour maximum deadline for tarmac sittings, Minnesota's Star Tribune reported. Full Story

Drake Has A Problem...

This is a complete disaster! We have here, a pair of duplicate songs with same beat and the same hook! This is a terrible look for all parties involved... It seems as if the producer sold the beat to Kardi last year and then resold it this year to Drake. Now since I'm not a fan of Drake and don't know exactly what happend, I'm just going to go ahead and blame this whole thing on Drake.

Drake feat. Kanye West, Lil Wayne and Eminem - “Forever”

Why am I blaming it all on Drake? Well, I'm not a fan of his $2 million advance. If the label doesn't re-coupe the money invested into him (which I don't think they will), people will lose jobs. People I personally know, have lost jobs because of bad investments on more then one occasion at more then one company, within the music industry. You may say this is the labels fault for signing wack artists... I say its the artists fault for being wack! Stop freestyling off Blackberrys and step your game up!

So I gave Drake some new looks:

Drake damn near broke his back when he took that tumble on stage...

His Holiness, Pope Drizzy Drake

Drake tried to Chris Brown someone....

Drake, when his album flops....

Drake, tell your homie to keep his hands to himself... HOMO FAIL. But then again Drake is signed to Young Money... Might be playing the kissing game...(ewww!)

Now call me a hater if you must, but if anyone wants to photoshop me and send it to me, go right ahead. I'll even put it on my blog, that is if your photoshop skills are up to par... Users Beware. The "Man" is on Facebook, MySpace, Etc

If I've said it once, I've said it a million times, people: Be careful about what you say and post on the internet because it could come back to bite you. The Wall Stree Journal is offering lessons on this very subject this week.
Let's say you owe back child support, taxes or owe a debt to the Department of Treasury. Well, their agents (collectors) are able to use the info you post on your facebook, myspace or any other social network site to track you down and collect their debt. The article stated that "In Nebraska, 'agents are not allowed to 'friend' someone using false information,' for example. But anything posted publicly -- which is the default for anything posted on MySpace -- can be used against you in the quest to collect on your tax bill."
So users beware. The "man" is now socuring social networking sites in order to catch you. A prime example of the lengths they will go to: "One deejay posted on his MySpace page that he'd be working at an upcoming party. Agents decided to crash it to collect their cash. Another man announced he was moving back to his home town and published the name of his new boss. Finding him to collect on an old tax bill was a matter of ease."

And in case you've never Googled your own name, try it. You will be quite surprised at what comes up and how much of your personal info is out there for anyone to view. Sites like Yahoo ask you if you'd like to make your personal information searchable by users. I would highly recommend that you check "No."

Facebook makes it easy to find users by their first names and I won't even go into Google or other search engines.

Just be careful what you choose to make available to the public and be even more careful at what you choose to post from blurbs to photos. Uncle Same, The "man" and a lot of other people are watching.

Is There Trouble In Paradise for Joe Budden & Tahiry?!

You know, I'm not sure what I think of this just yet. I don't want to assume or make any assumptions because this could just be a lovers quarrel. But whatever the case is Tahiry is damn upset with Joey! I first heard the rumors over this past weekend but blew them off because there were some rumors like this months ago and they weren't true. Check out this argument between Tahiry and Joe Budden and let me know what you think of their fight below:

Hell, I think the argument was authentic considering Tahiry f*cked up Joe's camera...but that could've been done out of anger. Couples have arguments and go through things....maybe this was just a bad day for them. Also, check out this clip, courtesy of World Star saying how Joe Budden looked depressed after breaking up with Tahiry below:

I don't know what to think! Maybe this is some sort of scam to generate more album sales? I'm just guessing. Help me out here folks! And to add insult to injury, here is what Inspectah Deck had to say about Joe Budden below:

And to think all of this popped off just for mentioning Method Man's name!

¡Cocina Puertorriqueña!

Ok, mi gentes. Theblackurbantimes is bring you yet another ¡receta Puertorriqueña!

Carne Bif (Corned Beef) has always been a favorite of mine. It's a simple, quick yet filling, healthy meal -- especially when you have kids and don't really feel like cooking your usual four course meal.

YOU WILL NEED
2 tablespoons goya olive oil
1/4 cup of Sofrito
1 teaspoon of Adobo and Alcaparrados (I use Goya)
1 packet of Sazon Goya
1 can of Tomato sauce
1/2 cup of water
Salt & Pepper
1 small can of corn (Drained)

COOK
First, get out your caldero or another medium sized pot. Add your olive oil and let it heat up a minute or two. Then add your sofrito, adobo, sazon y salt & pepper and cook until colored. Next, add your alcaparrado (use the Goya like I do. Alcaparrado is just olives mixed with pimientos strips and capers) and then your tomato sauce & water water.

Simmer for about five minutes and then add the corned beef. Take a fork and mush it to get a lot of the clumps. Make sure the meat is coated completely with sauce. The mixture should be kind of watery so don't panic.

I serve my carne bif with white rice, platanos y ensalada. Voila! You have a meal. Raven, Anthony and Aaron loved this Boricua favorite...but then again, they just loved to eat period.

And nothing else goes better with a great Puertorriqueña meal like a Malta Goya, Coco Rico and of course, a smokin' hot cup of Cafe con Leche! Wepa!!

*Muy Importante* When selecting your platanos, be sure to get the ones that are really yellow with black spots (the more ripe they are, the better).

Slice it down middle and then peel. Slice platano into fours, then slice each half lengthwise. Then fry your slices in olive oil over medium heat until tender and brown turning only once. Fried platanos is a traditional part of almost every Puertorriqueña meal. If you want to make a traditional Puertorriqueña breakfast with platanos, make a sunny side up egg with totones and platanos and your papi o sus niños will L-O-V-E it.

Speaking of a traditional Puertorriqueña breakfast...try Funche.
YOU WILL NEED

1½ cup cornmeal, 1½ cup water
1½ cup milk, 3 tablespoons of butter

Boil all ingredients, except cornmeal. Remove from heat and gradually add cornmeal continually stirring. Cook over medium-low heat until it thickens. Serve warm. Add more sugar or milk if desired. Raven and Anthony loved this on a cool morning or sometimes at night. It sticks to the ribs!

Next Week: I just might get bold enough to try Alcapurrias! Look out!

EVERY BORICUA KITCHEN NEEDS:

A Pilón and a good set of Calderos!

Wally Nash Making a Difference in Mott Haven

BY DANIEL BEEKMAN
NYPOST.COM

It took four years but the city finally listened to Mott Haven resident Wally Nash. On Monday, August 17, the Department of Environmental Protection and the Department of Sanitation flicked the switch on hydraulic pumps at the flooded railroad known to Bronx residents as "the swamp."
Nash first asked the city to drain the swamp in 2005. The Concord Avenue resident has spotted dead raccoons and giant mosquitoes, homeless people and gutted goats. DSNY plucked a dead body from the swamp, Nash said. Mott Haven residents hate the stink.
"I walk my dog at night," Nash said. "It smells like a dead body. I'm serious. I used to work in a hospital. I did autopsies."
Deputy Mayor Edward Skyler joined Steven Lawitts of DEP and John Doherty of DSNY to launch the cleanup. When more than 150,000 gallons of stagnant water has been drained into the sewer system, DSNY will scrape the railroad of debris. DSNY will also attempt to pinpoint why the swamp flooded.
There's no doubt in Nash's mind as to why. The 65-year old has lived on Concord Avenue his whole life. As a boy, he played on the railroad. It handled freight. It runs from Bruckner Boulevard and E. 142nd Street to St. Mary's Street, under St. Mary's Park to E. 149th Street.
"It started to flood in 2005 when Con Edison built a transfer station at Southern Boulevard," Nash said. "There was nowhere for the rainwater to drain out no more."
The city acted in response to neighborhood residents and will attempt to identify the owner of the railroad, a press release said.
Nash knows the story. The railroad handled freight until ten years ago, he said. The railroad belonged to Penn Central and was sold to another firm. The firm rented it to the MTA and to CSX until 2004. It appears that the property belongs to Metropolitan 47 LLC but that firm has failed to attend Department of Health hearings.
The city plans to query Amtrak, the MTA, Midtown Trackage Ventures, Metropolitan 47 LLC and other firms, City Hall spokesman Jason Post said.
City Hall has been reluctant to act, Nash said. He was told that the swamp water would contaminate the sewer system. He was told that DEP lacked the proper equipment.
"Now it's election time," Nash said. "Where is the water? In the sewer system. Where is the equipment? DEP has the equipment."
The city has yet to address the putrid exits that transport air from the railroad tunnel up into St. Mary's Park. Even so, Nash was glad to see the pumps switched on. It rained hard in July and early August; the swamp had swelled.
"I hope they finish the job," he said. "Mosquito season doesn't end until October."
Mott Haven residents want to transform the railroad into a greenway. The city recently opened The High Line, a park built on an elevated railroad, in Manhattan. It should open The Low Line in Mott Haven, open space advocate Harry Bubbins said.

Hurricane Jimena Bearing Down on Baja, California

MIAMI, Florida (CNN) -- With winds of 135 mph, Hurricane Jimena was approaching Mexico's Baja California peninsula on Sunday as a Category 4 storm, forecasters said. "There's a good chance this system could be a Category 5 in the next 24 hours," said Dave Roberts, a hurricane specialist with the National Hurricane Center.
As of midday Sunday, Jimena was located about 285 miles (458 km) south of Cabo Correintes, Mexico, or about 500 miles (804 km) south-southeast of the southern tip of Baja California, Roberts said. The storm is expected to continue in a north-northwest motion and approach the southwestern tip of Baja California sometime early Tuesday, he said.
Jimena is the 10th named storm of the Pacific season.
"It started out kind of slow for the Pacific," said Robbie Berg, another specialist at the hurricane center. "But actually August, now we've had seven named storms form, and that's pretty busy for August. We haven't seen that -- I think it's been a couple decades since we've seen that many storms in August."
There's no reason for people in that area to panic, but they should keep an eye on Jimena, Berg said.
"There's no watches or warnings in effect, but we would like residents and tourists in the area to monitor the progress of the storm," Berg said. "We do expect it to maintain its major hurricane strength as it heads up into that area."
Tropical Storm Kevin has also emerged in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. However, Berg says it is weak -- with winds at 50 mph -- and is not expected to pose a serious threat.

New Bern Woman Stabbed, Left For Dead

New Bern police need your help to identify a man that stabbed a woman and left her for dead. At approximately 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Kimberly A. Meade, 27, of Wind Hill Court was asleep in her apartment when a man broke into her home and stabbed her multiple times before fleeing with her jewelry.

Meade’s mother, Pat Wright, said that her daughter’s throat had been slit and that her chin and neck had also been slashed. “He left her for dead,” said Wright. “She played possum so he would leave.” Meade’s husband was not at home at the time of the attack.

Meade, who was flown to East Carolina Medical Center and later to Pitt County Memorial Hospital, did not know her attacker but was able to give police a limited description of her attacker. The attacker is a muscular African American male, 6 feet tall, wearing a yellow shirt and jean shorts. If you have information about the suspect, please call the New Bern police Department at (252) 633-2020.

Marine Sells His Liberty To Help Homeless

Matthew Purkey wants you to buy his liberty.
Purkey, a corporal stationed at Camp Lejeune, is selling his 96 hours of liberty allotted during the Thanksgiving holiday for $25 an hour in hopes of raising $2,400 to donate to a homeless shelter in Wilmington.
“Liberty (in the Marine Corps) means enjoying the things you can’t enjoy on a normal basis,” he said. “The homeless don’t get liberty.”
The 27-year-old Marine, who lives in Hampstead, spent last Christmas with his wife Kayla and a group of Marines serving the homeless at the Salvation Army Emergency Shelter in Wilmington. He said the experience was “humbling” and sparked his interest in doing more.
“It’s one of those ugly facts of society that we just don’t like to look at,” he said. “I believe that people will not make eye contact with the homeless because they know they are two decisions away in their life from being that way.”
Purkey said he found the inspiration for his liberty-selling venture after hearing a sermon in church a few weeks ago. The congregation was asked “Are you doing enough?”
“I’ve come to the realization that a lot of people want to help out, but they’re scared to do the footwork,” he said. “It’s easy to be faithful when you’re sitting at home in the lap of luxury.”
However, at the heart of Purkey’s devotion to this cause is something more personal. For eight years he struggled with alcoholism. Some nights, his mother wrote down his name and address on a piece of paper and tucked it into his shirt pocket because she feared the worst.
“It’s easy to go from drinking to have a good time to drinking to not feel sober anymore,” he said. “It’s a fine line people push. I pushed that line long enough and before I realized I wasn’t having fun anymore.”
He believes God saved him.
“There’s no other way to say it: He delivered me,” he said.
The experiences he gathered from his darkest days are something Purkey said he hopes will help him further his mission to help the homeless.
“I know the pain that they’re feeling, and that’s the relief I want to give,” he said. “When people tell me you don’t know what it’s like — I do.”
Purkey plans to spend the liberty hours he sells with the homeless at the Good Shepherd Center during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. He’s been told the center is usually full during holidays and said he does not expect special treatment. If there is not an available bed for him he will sleep on the street and panhandle for food if necessary.
“I’m not taking anything with me. If there’s room, I’ll stay … If there’s not — off I go,” he said. “People have gone through worse with less.”
Purkey said his wife is “joyfully worried” about how he will fare during the weekend but supports him in his endeavors.
Katrina Knight, executive director at the Good Shepherd Center, said they are “excited” about Purkey’s endeavor.
“He is clearly very sincere,” she said. “He already has experience volunteering and working with people in housing crisis and I think he has a really heartfelt desire to bring greater awareness to the problem, not just in our community but throughout the region.”
Knight said Purkey’s passion for advocacy as well as his desire to personally experience life at the center are what made the partnership a good fit.
“We’re really looking forward to when the time comes that he has those hours and can spend some time here living among our folks but can also volunteer and understand the scope of our work firsthand,” she said.
If all goes well, Purkey said he hopes this will become an annual event.
“I’d like for this match to cause a fire,” he said. “Next year I hope if I’m not here, if I’m not able to do it, that someone else will pick up the reins.”
With two years left in the Marine Corps, Purkey already has plans for life as a civilian. He and his wife will return home to Ohio to open a shelter and start programs for those struggling with addiction with several friends, one of whom is an accountant and one, an architect.
“I honestly believe God made us all different jobs to come back together for his cause,” he said.
The group of friends has already come up with a mission statement for their endeavor: “It’s truly American to judge someone on the potential of their future not on the mistakes of their past.”
Purkey plans to present the funds generated from the sale of his liberty hours to Good Shepherd Center on Nov. 1.
“People look at them through eyes of hellfire and damnation. Instead of damning these people, let’s help them,” he said. “This is something that I have to do. God has put this on my heart for a reason.”

Suspicious Fire at Club Gas in Greenville

By Kathryn Kennedy
The Daily Reflector

Investigators with Greenville Fire-Rescue are looking into a suspicious fire that started early this morning at a former nightclub.
Club Gas, 507 N. Greene St., has not operated since May when the city's Board of Adjustment withdrew the special use permit needed to remain open. There was no one in the building when the fire started, Deputy Chief Sandy Harris said.
Firefighters responded to the call from a Pitt County Sheriff's Office deputy just before 5 a.m., he said. The seven units and more than 20 firefighters were confronted with heavy smoke and some smoke showing through the roof.
Harris said it took about an hour and a half to control the fire, but it was contained and no neighboring properties were in danger.
“There were multiple points of origin, so it was difficult to put out,” he said. “By the time the sun came up, (all Greenville stations) had worked a bit of it.”
The seemingly multiple origins make it a suspicious incident, Harris added.
Fire Marshall Gary Coggins and his staff were still investigating what exactly caused the fire mid-afternoon Sunday. The air still smelled strongly of burning wood and Greenville Police Department officers secured the parking lot.
Fire-Rescue Chief Mike Burton said damage to the facility is extensive.
Club Gas was formerly called Club Dynasty, then known for hosting a number of renown hip hop and R&B acts including rapper 50 Cent in 2003.
It was shut down this year because board members deemed it a health and safety hazard and detriment to public welfare — two of several criteria they use to determine an application's viability — despite testimony by the latest operator, Keith Frizzell.
The police department, fire-rescue, the building inspections department and the city's financial services office all spoke in opposition to the permit at that hearing.

LOS ANGELES – Wildfire threatened 12,000 suburban homes and rained ash on cars as far away as downtown Los Angeles on Sunday, spreading in all directions in hot, dry conditions. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger urged those in the fire's path to listen to authorities and get out.
Firefighters trained their attention on the blaze's fast-moving northern front as more evacuations were ordered in the Los Angeles suburbs.
While thousands have fled, two people who tried to ride out the firestorm in a backyard hot tub were critically burned. The pair in Big Tujunga Canyon, on the southwestern edge of the fire, "completely underestimated the fire" and the hot tub provided "no protection whatsoever," Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said Sunday.
The two individuals made their way to firefighters and were airlifted out by a sheriff's rescue helicopter. They received adequate notification to evacuate from deputies but decided to stay, Whitmore said.
One of the two was treated and released and the other remained hospitalized in stable condition. A third person was burned Saturday in an evacuation area along Highway 2 near Mount Wilson, officials said. Details of that injury were not immediately known.
"There were people that did not listen, and there were three people that got burned and got critically injured because they did not listen," Schwarzenegger said at a news conference at the fire command post. Full Story Here

BAGHDAD – The U.S. military is packing up to leave Iraq in what has been deemed the largest movement of manpower and equipment in modern military history — shipping out more than 1.5 million pieces of equipment from tanks to antennas along with a force the size of a small city.
The massive operation already under way a year ahead of the Aug. 31, 2010 deadline to remove all U.S. combat troops from Iraq shows the U.S. military has picked up the pace of a planned exit from Iraq that could cost billions.
The goal is to withdraw tens of thousands of troops and about 60 percent of equipment out of Iraq by the end of next March, Brig. Gen. Heidi Brown, a deputy commander charged with overseeing the withdrawal, told The Associated Press in one of the first detailed accounts of how the U.S. military plans to leave Iraq. Full Story Here
